PREGNANT PAUSE

I left quickly for an errand and to my surprise most barricades are empty. Well, it is lunch time, but there is something else: the "final" announcement of the Electoral Board, CNE, as to how many signatures are valid.

But tensions are even higher since Carrasquero has announced blithely to the BBC the numbers. To begin this is illegal, the CNE cannot announce numbers in any other way than an official way. This has not stopped the publication of all sorts of numbers and the identities of the people that signed. What is new is that the CNE president is mentioning that, and to a foreign source!!!

Promptly Rodriguez, the real president came out to say that those were not the numbers. What the hell is going on in the CNE?

Meanwhile reports of human rights abuse continue to be brought to private media, with all sorts of graphic details. The state TV ignores everything and almost psychotically continues its propaganda war.
