The population boom we saw in the next 20 years can only be compared to that in a couple of other underdeveloped nations like Bangladesh.<br />Universities were greatly expanded later on. One of the problems was clientelism, primary education was forgotten...<br /><br />As for crime: the murder rate started to skyrocket in the nineties.
