MORE BLOOD IN VENEZUELA

Friday December 6, 2002

Tonight during the now daily press conference of the opposition announcing a sixth day (!) of strike two sharp shooters attacked from two angles the crowd at Plaza Altamira. It has been already a month that a sui generis popular demonstration has been taking place at this major square in Caracas, until now in a surprisingly restrained atmosphere. Well, it is all over. Almost live as the press conference was suddenly interrupted by the networks showing people running around, laying flat on the floor, etc... This was 30 minutes before I am writing this message. The images have been pouring. A dead man his head wrapped in a Venezuelan flag, just like that on the side walk. The camera inside the tent that has been serving for people fainting of heat spells and now attending the injured. Now under that tent I have seen a woman dying in a pool of blood on a bench. And I am not sure how many dead people I have seen. So far it seems that there is at least a dozen injured and at least 3 deaths. But this is what I saw live.

Of course, this attack can be sponsored by any of the loose cannon people that the current regime has generated. They can come as well from Chavez or anti Chavez extremists. Violence generates violence.
