Veracity in the media: how Venezuelan state TV manipulates the news

There so many great videos lately to illustrate chavismo vileness that the hard work is to chose one.

It is fashionable in Liberal circles to bemoan the manipulation made by Fox TV news. I do not know about that, nor it would surprise me: having lived for years in the US I have long ago stopped trusting CNN, CBC, ABC and NBC news and surely if I were living there I would have also distrusted Fox quickly. I have learned long ago that it is essential to monitor more than one news outlet and then try to make your own newscast :)

Well, I am pretty sure that after watching the next video taken from the news broadcast of VTV yesterday night the semi enlightened reader will realize that any of the above US media is actually way more trustworthy than anything projected by the Venezuelan state TV, VTV. The clip is about the recent Ukraine news where there is a battle of wills between former presidential candidates Viktor Yushchenko and Viktor Yanukovich who are now respectively President of Ukraine and Prime minister (for details on the current situation you can read a brief and excellent article in the Herald Tribune).

I have translated some portions of the anchorman background voice and added some [comments] where pertinent as I repeat the original chronological comments.

0:16 conflict of powers
0:18 could bring severe consequences to the controversial Ukrainian system
00:32 behind the conflict of powers there hides the antagonist ideological visions
00:41 Yushchenko represents the sectors pro US of Ukraine who generated the crisis known as Orange Revolution in Ukraine
00:48 whereas behind Yanukovich move nationalist and leftists sectors
00:52 untied in the coincidence of opposing pro US folks

Now with comments as to Venezuelan chavismo subconscious

0:16 conflict of powers [something of interest for chavista who came to power through conflict of power and who these days are managing to create their own ones]

0:18 could bring severe consequences to the controversial Ukrainian system [not so subtle propaganda: a nod to the Venezuelan system who chavismo likes to think as uncontroversial]

00:32 behind the conflict of powers there hides the antagonist ideological visions [ideology everywhere, betraying that chavismo cannot rule outside of ideological conflict to justify its actions]

00:41 Yushchenko represents the sectors pro US of Ukraine who generated the crisis known as Orange Revolution in Ukraine [so the Orange revolution was just a crisis and Yushchenko was only a paid agent of the US all along, even if he pretended to be poisoned. The Orangist were also paid, one must deduct, just as the Rosales marches of last December were paid by Busss]

00:48 whereas behind Yanukovich operate nationalist and leftists sectors [observe the now obscene leitmotiv of nationalism and leftism integration, just as the pseudo bolivarianism which must have Bolivar spinning in his grave]

00:52 united in the coincidence of opposing pro US folks [yeah, right. All the world is a fight between Bush/Bussss and the leftist nationalist. Hitler or Stalin would have had it that easy]

I will pass on the primitivism of such political posturing among chavismo who after all is only trying to ingratiate itself to Chavez to access rewards. No, what I really want people to see is the garbage that passes as nightly news coming from VTV, where even international news are crassly manipulated to serve as an example of chavismo grandeur and self righteousness. No wonder the Brazilian Communication minister allowed himself to say out loud what all embassies in Venezuela know and discretely let their government know: all state TV in Venezuela is chavista propaganda.

Within chavismo there is no journalistic objectivity left and thus it is that slowly but surely they must curtail freedom of expression, if anything so that pro Chavez journalist can hide how mediocre, and crass, and ignorant, and unable of any intellectual understanding they are.
