Interesting though, the military are not exactly goose-stepping down the road. They look like rabble: waving at the camera, taking photos, wearing baseball caps, chatting to each other, not marching in lines. This does not look like a well-trained scary type of military like that of North-Korea, for example.

You are absolutely right but the effect is still the same, it is adapted to the target that chavismo seeks: to keep in line its core base. For them it is already scary enough, the idea that they will have to fall in line at some point if they want access to Mercal.

For us it is not as scary, right now, but it should be scary because that is the way it starts, taking the rabble and organizing them just enough to reach some political objective. In Cuba, the CDR do not look much different from the population at large and might even look as casual as any Cuban. And yet, step out of the conventional line and see hos suddenly "casual mobs" surround, say, the Damas de Blanco.

Even in Germany, Rohm organized his SA from the rabble also, and if in 1933 they were goose stepping, they certainly were not in their earlier days. And they never wore baseball caps :)
