The Grinch that keeps trying to steal Christmas

The more time passes, the more Chavez looks like the Grinch (even some would say in his green complexion).  Usually as the holidays approach Chavez tries some media stunt to make sure people do not forget about him, but this year he reached a new level.  It is not that what he did benefited him much, I think it will be counterproductive, but it is worth  reporting because it describes perfectly the advanced degree of mental decomposition that an obsessively narcissistic personality reaches over time.

First, he did a cadena.  You know, the forced SIMULTANEOUS MANDATORY BROADCASTING ON ALL TV and RADIO STATIONS of the country.  You may point out that he does cadenas all the time but the one he did on Xmas eve was, well, ridiculous.  He had all of his cabinet around a table, on a Saturday, before Xmas, when they should be taking care of familiy matters rathert than waste time listening to yet another of Chavez diatribes.  And if such public servants are supposed to serve even at Xmas, well, let them serve and do not hold them hostage to Chavez idiocy.

Of course, I did not watch it, of course, almost no one did watch it because everyone was preparing for our traditional Xmas eve feast, or running around like a beheaded chicken seeking a last minute due gift.  But Chavez did plow through his midday cadena, reprimanding his staff, or congratulating it, and making all sorts of promises and all sorts of lies as to having fulfilled previous promises.  I may not have watched but I was told and read the tweets of those who watched (because it is their job to watch Chavez for me).  I suppose that Chavez wanted to look like a piƱata santa.....

If this was not already bad enough, the man had the chutzpah of sending an SMS to everyone in the country.  I find that particularly offending, that Chavez invades my SMS box who I let very few people access, to tell me in his usual tone some insincere bullshit that I can do without, a bullshit that had absolutely no redeeming Xmassy quality.  Not to mention that he must have paid for it, or did he force the three cel operators of Venezuela to relay that for free?  Chavez abuses really have no limit, not the slightest sense of decorum or timing.

But I suppose he wanted to be sure we would be reminded of him atrociously before he goes to Cuba to spend the holidays receiving some mystery medical treatment....

Thus is Chavez, completing his full transformation into a Grinch, not content in stealing from us our livelihood, homes, lands, etc...  but even our privacy and our Christmas spirit.

But keep going on Hugo,  and watch Putin.  He was high in polls and suddenly the Red Square filled up with protesters when he went one step too far.  The way you are going I am glad to observe that any time soon you are going to make that misstep.

I could not agree with you more Daniel. I thought the same thing when I saw the news of Russia. Chavez keeps taking little steps and every time he is losing support while oppo gets more popular.

I still think that Hugo will lose....but will do everything to stay. He will stop at nothing to cling to power. Him and his cronies have passed the point of no return. Will it take a civil uprising to protect our votes after the sure fraud and cheating that will be in this election. Will we make it to an election? Its not a question of if he loses... its a question of how we make him leave.

Upon receiving Chavez SMS, one of my in-laws replied back "Va lavarte este c*l*" and lost the use of his cellphone for several hours.

Who was more likely to recieve this message? Anyone with a phone? Well I would think that this message was meant more to the "middle" and upper class rather than his core of lower class. I think was more of psychological tactic that anything else. Its a way of saying ....."I can get to you whenever and however I want" and that you can't escape him. Sick in the head he is!

  5. Charly, I find that very strange... I tried to call back or answer the message and it was impossible. I wasn't going to be very polite with man thou :0

Daniel, as you, I find it very intrusive. If anyone wants to know my cel number they have to ask me. It's not like there's a cel phone white pages!! My number is private!

But I understand that the message is not about wishing us a Merry Christmas, but the fact that the regime does control the cel companies and can do whatever they want. OTOH... this dirty propaganda works very well in the barrios. I bet a lot of people were very happy and amused with their personal mensajito from Hugo.

Mark my words. They will use again this method to make people vote for him. Reminding them about the misiones or something that makes them guilty.

Liz, apparently there is a 700 series number one can reply to. In my wife's family, only those who were or had been on government payroll at one time or another received the message.

  7. per usual Grinch saw
it had to be his way
    keeping the folks in awe
    even on Christmas day...

    He renewed his old plan...
    which was extremely mean
    and tightened his clenched hand
Til he turned all screens green.

    His grimace was hideous
    all furtive and taught
    he came to steal Christmas
    and our misery he sought

    He didn't say openly
But we know what he means
    He wants what he wants
and he'll lie til he's green

    His real message is,
    that he needs our confusion
    to take the whole country
    for his selfish illusions

    "You’ve been mean and naughty,
So here is your Grinch poop!
    I withhold all the goodies
    and your country , I will loot :) "

  9. Cell Phone penetration in Venezuela is over 100% of the population, so it is a very effective way to reach most of the country.

  10. That's unbelievable that cell phone penetration is over 100 %....I know so many people in my town here in the US who don't have cell phones. That's bizarre!

I mostly function without one...I have one, cheap prepaid in the car for emergencies....

For me, my GPS is more useful with our complicated road system.

I wonder how many people who have cell phones in the barrios actually have service?I know a few in the barrios who have a cell phone but cannot use them because they cannot afford service.

As for these personal cell phone messages it reminds me of tricks the 4th Republic used to play, like giving out hand signed and delivered Christmas cards to people.I once got one from CAP, even though I had no connection to him.

I am sure this type of thing makes many people believe that Chavez has access to them....just like the video Kepler posted above....either it feeds on their paranoia, or it makes them feel important.

  11. Cerdita,
in Venezuela the prepaid phones are very cheap. I have one.

You don't pay the incoming messages or calls. So anyone can reach you at all times. And for just 20Bs/month you can make lots of calls and mensajitos.

That's the reason everybody here has a cel phone.

And also many people have 2 or 3 cel phones because the service is very deficient and for security reasons since you never know which one of your carriers will work at a given time, you need a back up one thus questioning how real the 100% coverage. I have a 412 and a 414. Interestingly I got my Chavez message on the 412 but not on the 414 (which is, by the way, a corporativo so maybe those were spared)

  13. I also got mine from Digitel.

Fun fact: my son got his first than me. I was second and my husband received the message on the 25th.

Then we realized that our 3 phone numbers go in crescendo. The first 2 beginning in the 300 and the third is around 900. Obviously a machine/computer sends the messages to every single number in order.

    OFF TOPIC BUT BIG:

    CHECK OUT THE LATEST NEWS!!!!

President of Argentina CK was diagnosed with cancer. What is it with these Lat American Presidents. Is it a curse? I remember a while back here in the US we had what we called the Quarter Back curse. Most every major football quarter back had a sickness with their child. It was weird.

I can hear chavistas now.....the CIA is responsible. We planted cancer carrying mosquitoes, put something in the water, etc.

The CIA sends cancer viruses via SMS, but only to presidents.

    How about this:
Feb.4, 2012 _Venezuela and Cuba begin the process of becoming one country.(to be completed by 2018)
[How often we joked about this..]
I wonder if the US will change immigration law to allow Venezuelans the same privelage as Cubans -re."wetfoot/dry foot" policy.

    CharlesC,

Do you mean the The Cuban Adjustment Act (CAA), Public Law 89-732? I doubt it. By 2018 most of the Castros will be really gone, and the US will surely argue that there is no longer a need for this law which was meant to protect persecuted Cuban born citizens. A merger with Venezuela will make the law inoperative because Cuba will have ceased to exist. Besides, 2018 is a mid-term election year in the US, and the votes of the Florida based Cuban-American community will not be critical to the incumbent president at that time. Not to mention the fact that Cuban-Americans sympathize in increasing numbers with the Democrats and will not punish a Democratic candidate for killing this law. Forget it: learn to swim.

    "Forget it: learn to swim."
First, I am a great swimmer. Received LifeGuard training.
Besides, I can float very well, too.
Actually, there are 6 years and a lot of water will flow under the bridge between now and 2018.
What in the heck are you talking about "punishing democrats"...
Man, you need a new crystal ball.
