Today the French parliament gave its final vote for the "mariage pour tous", all can marry who they want. Today the Venezuelan parliament did not reopen its doors because its head, Diosdado Cabello, refuses to give the microphone to whomever does not agree with him. In France civilization keeps advancing, as both right and left booed out a heckler trying to unfurl an idiotic banner in the last vote. In Venezuela hecklers are encouraged if they bitch at the opposition, and when necessary chavismo representatives hit opposition representatives with a microphone, leaving gashes requiring many stitches. In Venezuela the regime tries to force the acceptation of a fraudulent election whereas in France many in the right who voted against the law declare already that they will apply it and look forward performing their first gay wedding.
Meanwhile on May 2 the S.O. and I will have been together for 14 years and we are looking forward a wedding at the French embassy this late fall.
Congratulations to you and the SO!

ReplyDeleteI'm like anon @11:06. When I heard the news, my thoughts went to you and your SO, living in such an incredible "Alice in Wonderland" country. My best wishes and congratulations to you both!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Daniel! Many, many best wishes and hapiness to you both. Cheers to May 2nd and many more and really, late Fall will be here before you know it. Enjoy all the planning and be sure to make lots of wonderful memories!
ReplyDeleteOh no! It is going to be a very simple affair. Pre nuptial so families are not upset about anything, simple visit to the embassy with our two witness, and maybe lunch the 4 of us. After 14 years, one is way beyond such extravaganza though a post wedding trip is in discussion. Though, while in Brazil, I got the stones for two wedding bands. Yes, wedding bands with a stone, amethyst for me, citrulina for the S.O. That is the lone extravaganza, though with insecurity in Venezuela the stones are cheap on purpose, Stern cheap, but cheap nevertheless.
DeleteCongratulations Daniel and the SO! Wishing you the best of life in the days to come!
ReplyDeleteWow that's good news. I didn't know you could perform a wedding at an embassy.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you both.
You can at least throw some rice.
I will never claim that here in el imperio de los esqualidos that our elected officials are the epitomiesofperfection. to wit, we've had some true morons in the limelight of our politics like G. W. Bush, Jesse Jackson, Joe McCarthy, to name a few. During the 19th century, as shown in the Movie "Lincoln," there was riotous behavior in our Congress that has diminished in the century since. Earlier, there was the fatal duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr.
ReplyDeleteDespite morons, duels, extreme bickering and insults, we never have had behavior such as these retromingent officialists displayed beating up fellow assemblymen, silencing them, and worse. We never have had a president putting judges in prison for no cause at all, subjecting them to torture, rape, denying cancer treatment.
For shredding our Constitution and Bill of Rights, for not having the trust in Providence to notmake a bad situation worseby trying to fix things regarding Iraq, Bush deserves a place in infamy. For inventing a new constitution, shredding that, claiming to be the champion of the poor and oppressing them worldwide through raising petroleum prices and militarization, surrendering the national patrimony and sovereignity to Cuba thus betraying the dream of Bolivar, for promoting and pandering to absolutely the most incorrigible and corrupt elements among the society, and leaving the country in fundamentally worse condition than when his supposed reforms commenced, Chavez and his lackeys are fulfilling the Plan of Providence perfectly, like on fresh baked bread. Its' time is passed. He will mostly be remembered as the man who furthered the cause of Bush's great idiocracy, and who brought Smartmatic software home after it was proven for Bush in Florida 2000!
