In non Snowden news: Venezuelan inflation for June is 4.7%

That is right, good news!!!!  After a 6% in May now we are down to 4.7% inflation for June!  Expect the regime to gloat on that, they is enough stupid around for some of them to say it so.

That gives us for 2013 a 25% inflation total for the first semester and an expected +/- 40% for year's end. Keep in mind that those are "official" numbers but that in the private sector we work with an expected inflation for the year of at least 50%. Note that the food inflation alone was 5.8%, the number that matters the most for el pueblo. But they keep voting for chavismo, they must be happy. "Viva Chavez! Carajo! Ahora si tenemos patria!" They will get the expected 55% inflation for food...... for the year. Let's see what happens then when even the potential 40%  minimum wage is indeed granted as promised.

I feel like Snowden landing on Venezuelan soil is the best thing that could ever happen for the opposition camp.

It would be in the the best interest of the US to completely disconnect itself from Venezuela (since we now have a bit of a reason too).

The current Chavista regime would surely fail if the US stopped all imports of oil and banned all exports overnight.

The current Chavista regime has already failed in every possible way. Cuba complains about the US embargo all the time but the US supplies most of Cuba's food and Cuba can buy anything it wants from other countries. Maduro would love to have a scapegoat to draw attention away from his failures. It will take more than complete economic chaos to get Maduro out of office.

Early in his 14 year career, Chavez threatened continuously to cut off oil exports to the US. Later, Chavez realized how stupid that would be and stopped the threats.
