PS: There is always the possibility for an early election in Venezuela
I should have added this as a "added in proof" in my previous post. There is always the possibility that at any time Chavez will call for an early election.
He has money in the huge reserves at the Central Bank, courtesy of the currency control exchange. There no doubt that a threatened chavista majority at the National Assembly will find a way for him to dig in.
He has the chutzpah. No need to comment that.
He has the scare tactics used for the past few weeks.
He has an opposition that has still to solve how they will pick a unique candidate.
Most importantly by announcing this tonight, he will bypass the CNE announcement of the signatures having been gathered by the opposition. One humiliation avoided.
