Photo Finish in Mexico

Amazingly at 8 PM Mexico time, Televisa, TV Azteca and El Universal announce that their three, 3, independent exit polls all coincide: the winner cannot be announced, the statitical error is larger than the possible lead of a given candidate.

That is, be it Obrador or Calderon, the winner might not win by more than a meager 1%....

PS: what a contrast with Venezuela. The local CNE, IFE, announces that its fast counting result will be announced at 11 PM, Mexico time. Meanwhile at 8 PM private media is allowed to publish its estimation. At 8 PM all polling stations are closed, even in Baja. At 11 PM, WITH MANUAL COUNTING, the IFE will announce a lead, perhaps even a result. At 11 PM, allegedly in Venezuela the CNE claims that people are still voting.... And forget about results. Heck, we are still waiting for the very final results of December 2005...

Truly, how deep in ridicule will have the CNE to sink until something is done about it? The Venezuelan voting system stinks big time: it is corrupt, slow, untrusting, mysterious, treacherous. Even in Mexico, of all places, they have cleaned up their act!!!!!

PS2: No matter who wins, a Chavez like situation is now ruled out in Mexico. Even if Obrador wins, it will be the weakest of majorities, with a Congress controlled by the opposition. He will have to negotiate. Mexico has escaped the curse of Chavez, but Obrador has not.

PS3: Later that evening. Obrador has his underlings claim victory and calls for people to El Socalo AFTER 11 PM. Well, I have never seem such a sad victory calim... which shows that such a hair thin victory, if verified, might be a curse rather than a blessing....
